6 | The Wimer Family by Paul W. Myers, undated but printed after 1975. Pgs. 13-19 Research regarding Isaac Finley Wimer; pg. 13, "By 1861, Finley had met his future wife, Marinda Covert...."; p.14, "...Finley and Marinda were married... in Brady Township on October 1, 1864..."; pgs. 14-15, "In 1870, Marinda's father, Silas Covert, died leaving his homestead to his daughter. Finley and Miranda moved to the Covert Farm permanently. Shortly after they moved, several of the Coverts contracted a fatal respiratory illness which was also to take Miranda's life. Marinda Covert Wimer died on December 11, 1872, after a protracted illness, and was interred at the Wolf Creek Seceder Cemetery. Finley carried on alone, raising his four children on the farm where he spent the rest of his life." Please see Source Notes section below. |

[edit] Source Notes
- Note in source 6 the description of a respiratory illness striking the Covert family in about 1870, and the deaths listed in source 7 around 1870 : Silas in 1870, Alfred age 24 in 18(70?), Cindarella in 18(7-?), Emma Z. in 1869, Clarissa in 1869, and possibly Sarah M. (date illegible). The numbers in brackets with question mark appeared when transcrived to include a "7" but were poorly legible. The transcription was done in 2006, before extracting these notes re. the illness, from "The Wimer Family" in 2016.
- Note in Source 8, the woman Minerva who died in 1818 at age 54. Hers is the first name, at top of one of the faces of the obelisk. She may have been Silas Covert's mother, who then would have died in 1818 ~7 yrs. after he was born in ~1811. Or she may have been his sister. It is curious that her name appears only as Minerva, followed by date of death; the surname Covert would have been added if she were the first buried there, the the stone originated with here. It is quite possible that this Covert family resided here in 1818. Our direct line ancestor Lucas Covert is reported in the 1895 History of Butler County to have arrived in the area in 1796 as one of the first settlers. His relationship to Silas Covert is at present (Jan 2016) not established.
