+ | |'''"Memories"''' by Jennie Stoughton Osborn, Copyright 1935, Medicine Lodge, Kansas.
Pg. 11 "Next our cousin ''Mattie Boyle'' taught school. She was young and gay. We loved her and had a joyful winter that year. We had neighborhood dances and parties. Then sometimes a spelling at night when everybody came that cared to come. One night at the recess we got started to waltzing in the schoolhouse, and enjoying it hugely, when in came our mother and ''Uncle Billy Myer''.
When ''Myra'' failed to get home on time Uncle Billy became uneasy and came to see if she was at our house. She was not there so he and mother came down to the schoolhouse. They were terribly shocked to find us dancing instead of spelling. They felt as if we had disgraced the school...We had no organ or violin for music, so we sang "Old Dan Tucker" and "Weavely Wheat" or some other old tune. We were having lots of fun, but they marched us home...

* Per contributor James Voltz, one of ''Jane Stoughton'' (b. 1821) & ''Thomas Boyle'''s children was ''Martha Boyle''(b. 26 Mar 1843 / wed 1 July 1863 / d. 2 Mar 1873. - dates from Jim's aunt's book.) who married ''John Edward Hagan''. It is said that he was a Missouri farmer. In the 1880 census of Barber Co. Kansas, Lake City township, the family of ''Thomas B. Hagan'', age 45, lives next to the family of ''Barned(sic) V. Note that his daughter was born in Missouri. Stoughton'', age 61. The birth date of ''Thomas B. Hagan'' (~1835) puts him in the same generation as ''John Edward Hagan'' and wife ''Martha Boyle''. Note that his daughter was born in Missouri.

17 | "Memories" by Jennie Stoughton Osborn, Copyright 1935, Medicine Lodge, Kansas. Pg. 11 "Next our cousin Mattie Boyle taught school. She was young and gay. We loved her and had a joyful winter that year. We had neighborhood dances and parties. Then sometimes a spelling at night when everybody came that cared to come. One night at the recess we got started to waltzing in the schoolhouse, and enjoying it hugely, when in came our mother and Uncle Billy Myer. When Myra failed to get home on time Uncle Billy became uneasy and came to see if she was at our house.
18 | Will of Jane Stoughton (Boyle) , signed 16 Jan. 1888, lists only her daughter Hannah and her son James E. It mentions her being a Covert heir of the "Harlem Commons Syndicate of New York". The syndicate was apparently a group of owners of waterfront property on the Harlem River. See the linked page for articles from The New York Times in the 1880's re. development of piers, etc. on riverfront property, the building of the Harlem River Canal, and right-of-way ownership disputes. |

[edit] Source notes
- The will of Jacob Stoughton, brother of Jane Stoughton Boyle, names a niece Catherin Boile. Catherin would therefore be born before 1841. The research of Jeanne Eichelberger names five children of Jane Stoughton Boyle, not including a Catherin. Mary C. is not Catherin, as Mary C. was born in 1862.
- Kathleen McNair was born in Butler, PA, daughter of Thomas McNair & Jane unknown. She died 5 Mar 1913. Her father was a miller, born near Morgantown WVA; her mother ws born in Butler Co. PA. Kathleen McNair and Dr. Boyle had one child, James ClydeBoyle, Jr., born 7 Apr. 1906. (All per source #3, Genealog. & Personal History of Western PA, Vol. 3).
- Per contributor James Voltz, one of Jane Stoughton (b. 1821) & Thomas Boyle's children was Martha Boyle(b. 26 Mar 1843 / wed 1 July 1863 / d. 2 Mar 1873. - dates from Jim's aunt's book.) who married John Edward Hagan. It is said that he was a Missouri farmer. In the 1880 census of Barber Co. Kansas, Lake City township, the family of Thomas B. Hagan, age 45, lives next to the family of Barned(sic) V. Stoughton, age 61. The birth date of Thomas B. Hagan (~1835) puts him in the same generation as John Edward Hagan and wife Martha Boyle. Note that his daughter was born in Missouri.
