1999When I was in second grade my teacher offered to help us create our own comic books. We would write up a story, she would type the stories onto pages for us and then we could draw on the pages. She would then bind the books and laminate them. I made several of these books at the age of 8 and I still have them. In 1999, I decided to scan a few of them in and put them online for the general amusement of all. All the original typos of my handwritten manuscripts were maintained by the typist and again by my transcription. Yow.During January of 1999, I participated in a student-run class at MIT called the 6.270 Autonomous Robotics Design Competition. I kept a detailed online journal of my progress in designing, building, and testing my robot. In the spring of 1999 I got my own radio show at the MIT radio station, WMBR. I kept playlists online as well as some other information for the next three years. At the end of the summer of 1999, I went to a conference in Helsinki, Finland. I followed this up with a month-long trip through thirteen countries. Just me, a eurail pass, a backpack, and a camera. Here are some pictures I took on my journey. Originally this was a hideous monstrosity of pictures sans interface. In 2003 I finally incorporated it into my online photogallery When I was in grade school I was a LOGO wiz. The creator of LOGO came to my elementary school to see what me and a few friends had done. I met him again 15 years later while volunteering at a MIT Media Lab children's event. I've met Jeff Veen a couple times at web conferences in Boston. At one in the fall of 1999, he mentioned offhand that people were always commenting that he looked like some celebrity or other. This was an obvious challenge for a parody website. |
