The parents of Pieterje Michiels are not known, but by customary Dutch naming practice we expect her father's given name to be Michiels, surname unknown. Pieterje Michiels and husband [[Govert Jans]] and lived in Amsterdam at the height of the era of Dutch shipping, trading and exploration; also the height of the Northern Renaissance. We don't know details of the family life or occupation of Pieterje's parents or of Govert Jans; he may have been a farmer or he may have practiced one of the emerging trades. Among their descendants are found shoemakers, printers and bookbinders. Pieterje outlived her husband by 17 years. She appears to have lived her entire live ifn Amsterdam, and to have had at least two children, two daughters.<br />
