By 1870, Marion is living with his mother Caroline Murphy and his brother Willie Murphy in the house of Caroline's parents, Erastus and Lucy Church. There is a Civil War record available on ancestry.com showing a "Jofferson S. Murphy" having served in the war and "Caroline R." as his widow. I believe that Marion's father Jefferson was killed in the Civil War, and that afterwards Carolyn took the kids and moved in with her parents in Indiana.
