+Both of Margaret St. Clair's parents were born in Ireland. Their date of immigration is unknown but they are said to have reached Butler Co. PA by 1796, which is approximately the year of Margaret's birth. Because of the imprecision of  dates, we don't know if Margaret was born in Ireland, eastern U.S., or in Butler Co. PA.     <br>Both Archibald St. Clair and Margaret's future father-in-law James Hogue participated in a lottery for land in western Center Twp.  The St. Clairs settled on a farm just east of Unionville by 1803, when Margaret would have been about 6 years old. Archibald ran a distillery in addition to farming.   The 1858 map of Butler Co. shows the land of "St. Clair heirs" to lie southwest of Unionville, between present-day Unionville Rd. and McCandless Rd.  Margaret grew up on the farm in Center Twp., but after her marriage to James Irvin Hogue, resided in Slippery Rock Twp.  The Hogues apparently moved there in 1798.    James I. Hogue was a surveyor in addition to farming.  He laid out the plat for the village of West Liberty and owned a farm nearby.  The couple had nine children, the first son named for Margaret's father, the first daughter for James' mother, Mary Irvin.  When Slippery Rock Twp. was subdivided in 1854, the Hogue's property was in the newly created Brady Twp.   James Irvin Hogue died between 1870 and 1880; Margaret subsequently lived next to her grandson Isaac C. Wimer's relatives. She was age 84 in 1880. Her date of death and place of burial are not known to us.
