 <br><br>The Covert family came early to Pennsylvania from the Dutch community of New Jersey. Luke Coubert (sic) is found  with his family including 8 children, in Northumberland County by  the 1790 census, and was still there, in East Buffalo Twp., Northumberland Co. PA, in the 1800 census.   Lucas Covert was said  by writers of the 1895 History of Butler County PA, to be one of the first settlers in Butler County, arriving in 1796; this appears to be erroneous unless he came alone, staked a claim of some sort, and returned to Northumberland for his family, being enumerated there in 1800. He did however arrive with family in Butler Co. between 1800 and 1810. <br>The implications of this arrival of the Coverts in eastern PA by 1790 are that Lucas' daughter [[Catherine Covert]] was likely married in PA, and her children with husband [[John Stoughton]] were all likely born in PA.  Further, it suggests that the Stoughton family left New Jersey and arrived in PA by the time of that marriage, i.e. by about 1795.

First wife was Mary Young, daughter of David Young; married 3 July 1862; she died 15 years ago (i.e. ~1898). Second wife was Clare Beckwith who survived him.  No children by either marriage, but survived by Cora Rhodes of Chicago, who was brought up in his home.   Member First M. E. Church. Funeral Tue.
