 * Mahala Wise, wife of John Elliott Stoughton, was born in 1841, per the 1860, 1870 & 1900 census (and her obit). Searching the 1850 census of Clarion, Venango & Armstrong Co.s  for a Mahala, none age 9 were found, but a Mahala age 10 is found in each of the 3 counties including parents Henry & Polly Wise in Franklin Twp., Armstrong Co.  Company K, 14th Regiment of PA Volunteers was recruited at McKeesport, Allegheny Co.  It is possible that John Elliott Stoughton & family resided in Armstrong Co. until after his war service, and then moved to Butler Co. where they appear in the 1870 census.   (Research by Jim Voltz.)
