Frances Mains was born in Pennsylvania. Her husband, ''John Gallagher, Jr.'', was born in Ireland, County Donegal, in about 1783. He came with his parents [[John Gallagher|John]] and Margaret Gallagher to Butler County, Pennsylvania around the turn of the century and lived with them in Muddy Creek township for some years. Frances and John Jr. subsequently settled on a farm next to them, and near his brother James C. Gallagher's farm. This area of Muddy Creek Township later became Franklin Township.
